Birmingham Citadel FC was formed in the summer of 1997 as a way to integrate Salvationists and Non-Salvationists in a fun and enjoyable environment. The team plays in the Birmingham AFA Division every Saturday afternoon and play their home games at Moor Lane near Perry Barr. The team has so far had some success, being voted Birmingham AFA Club of the year in its first season (1997/98) and gaining promotion from Division 9 in the 1999/2000 season. The team again performed well last season, having finished 3rd in the table, and being promoted to Division 7.
This season starts with high hopes for the team as we hope to progress further into the league which will hopefully enable us to involve even more people in this important way of bringing people into contact with The Salvation Army.

Although the team play under the name Birmingham Citadel, the team is split almost 50/50 between Salvationists and friends from families, work, college and university. Club Secretary Mark Sharman in an interview with Grass Roots (the local non-league football league paper) explained "If someone comes along and wants to commit themselves to the club it's not an issue whether they're with the Army or not".
The ages of the players range from as young as 15, up to around 35. The team trains on Tuesday nights, and training is open to anyone who would like to join in, whether as a player, or simply to have some fun and keep fit (please contact Mark Sharman on 0121 689 3436 for details on times and venues).
