From the Commanding Officer
Major Samuel Edgar

Here are some standards of self-measurement, which may help us to detect weaknesses where they exist.  See how you measure up!
Have you ever broken yourself of a bad habit?
Do you retain control of yourself when things go wrong?
Do you think independently?
Can you handle criticism objectively and remain unmoved under it?
Can you use disappointments creatively?
Do your readily secure the co-operation and win the respect and confidence of others?
Do you possess the ability to secure discipline without having to resort to a show of authority?
Have you qualified for the beatitude pronounced on the peacemaker?
Are you entrusted with the handling of difficult and delicate situations?
Can you accept opposition to your viewpoint or decision without considering it a personal affront and react accordingly?
Do you find it easy to make and keep friends?
Are you unduly dependent on the praise or approval of others?
Are you really interested in people?  Or do you entertain respect of persons?
Do you possess tact?
Do you possess a strong and steady will?
Do you nurse resentments, or do you readily forgive injuries done to you?
Are you reasonably optimistic?  Pessimism is no asset to a leader.
Do you welcome responsibility?
Do other people's failures annoy or challenge you?
Do you use people or cultivate people?
Do you criticise or encourage?
Do you shun the problem person or seek him out?
Editor:  Now measure yourself for your wings if you've passed!
