Saturday
8th October was the first Auction of Promises staged at the Citadel,
with the proceeds going to the building fund. Many folks came along not knowing
quite what to expect but everyone without exception had a thoroughly good time.
The evening commenced with light refreshments in the Young Peoples hall with the YP band providing wall paper music while the potential bidders perused the various lots in the main hall. Some 70 lots were up for auction ranging from the offer of baking a cake to a weeks holiday in Tenerife. It was wonderful to see so many people entering into the spirit of the evening with such generous offers. The children had a stall which was full of goodies which they could purchase for a small donation.
Melvyn Owen was the auctioneer and he handled proceedings with great aplomb and wit. Half way through the evening the newly formed Samba band performed and the YP band gave another short programme. Bidding was at times fierce but always in good humour. The evening was a huge success, not only financially (the total raised to date is £2,500 with still more sealed bids to come in), but all in all it was an evening of great fellowship.
Our thanks go to all concerned.
