St Philip’s Cathedral, Birmingham, was the wonderful setting for a charity concert supporting Macmillan Cancer Relief.
The Canoldir Male Choir are very much our ‘musical neighbours’ as they rehearse each week in the Welsh Chapel in Loveday Street - just a stone’s throw from the Citadel.
As guests of the choir, the band shared in a blend of brass band and male voice choir that once again proved to be the ideal mix for a very appreciative audience.
Under the direction of their Musical Director, Clive Griffiths, the 50 strong choir presented a varied programme including songs from the classics (Bizet and Wagner), and from the pop world. The inclusion of Gwahoddiad, and Cwm Rhonnda with congregation and organ, left us in no doubt as to the choir’s Welsh connections.
Bandmaster David Nicholson compered the band’s contribution to the programme and, in its mix of classical, soloist features, songs from the ‘shows’ and indeed simple contemplative music, was able to share with the congregation the message of our Lord Jesus Christ.
