The Gothic splendour of the 800 years old Lichfield Cathedral was the venue for the Band on a Sunday afternoon in November. The occasion was a special Service of Choral Evensong of prayer and thanksgiving for the work of the judiciary and magistracy in Staffordshire.

As magistrates and their families began to assemble in the Cathedral the Band played music appropriate for the occasion. The playing of the Fanfare Her Majesty heralded the procession of the Choir, Clergy and Civic Dignitaries, who included the Lord Lieutenant and High Sheriff of Staffordshire.

Following the playing by the Band of the Hymn Tune Arrangement French, David Newstead, who organised the event, and his two colleague Bench Chairmen, in front of His Honour Judge Shand, re-affirmed the Oath of Allegiance and the Judicial Oath. His Honour Judge Tonking then read the Queen’s Commission for Staffordshire.
