Band and Songster Social - 12th January 2007

On Friday 12th January around 100 past and present bandsmen and songsters gathered at the Apollo Hotel in Birmingham for their annual dinner.

Everyone participated in an excellent 3 course meal during which various quizzes were held, testing our Army knowledge.  Each table had to give themselves an appropriate team name and answer a variety of questions.  As there was a tie between 4 teams, some fun knockout heats were introduced: these included moving Maltesers from one glass to another using a straw, and balancing a pencil on one's top lip!  In the end the prize was won by The Jungle Team.

At the end of the meal we were introduced to and entertained by our 'mystery guests', Stuart and Marjorie Watson.  Marjorie is the Songster Leader at Regent Hall and she was ably accompanied on keyboard by her husband, Stuart.

Marjorie is a professional singer who has connections with the stage.  We were treated to several songs from past and present shows including All I Want is a Room Somewhere; the rather comical song from Scotland Red Yo Yo in which we all had to participate (in broad Scottish dialect); concluding with And I Find I am Falling in Love With You.

At the end of the evening, and with thanks to Jean Harris and Songster Leader Lesley Nicholson for all the arrangements made, it was agreed that we had had another lovely and successful evening, where it was good to meet away from normal Army activities.
