Several hundred brass band enthusiasts gathered at Birmingham’s Symphony Hall
to listen to a pre-contest programme of music presented by Birmingham Citadel
Band. The occasion was the 150th Annual Brass Band Championship and for the
second year running BCB presented the gospel message in music. Multimedia images
presented on three large plasma screens helped to communicate the words and
convey the spiritual dimension contained in the music.
The band's repertoire for this occasion included The Kingdom Triumphant, Shine as the Light and the march Praise. Also included were solo items and a time of prayer and reflection.
Unusual as it might be to see an SA band featured at a band contest, the band's
ministry was given a very warm reception. Many of those present had links with
the Army, some were former bandsmen. All seemed to agree that it was good to see
the Army represented in this way at such an event.
