Candlelit Dinner for the Needy - 13th December 2001

Wasn't it William Booth, the Army's Founder, who said "the way to a man's heart is through his stomach"?  Well, in true 'back to basics' fashion we turned our attention to feed the needy, but we did it in style and hosted a candlelit dinner - held in the Citadel right in the centre of Birmingham - to which as many of the homeless or needy that we knew of were invited.  And we were not disappointed.  Despite the fact that we could not accurately predict the number who would show up on the day, all tables were filled.

It was Christmas dinner with all the trimmings, including the crackers, hats and, of course, a visit from Santa.  He was supported by two helpers, the daughters of chef Greg Wilson and his wife Penny.  At this point a very sincere thanks must be said to Greg and Penny for all their preparation and hard work on the day.

As well as a slap-up meal our guests were entertained by a number of the Corps' musicians.

Before leaving everyone had the opportunity to select some clothing, blankets and other useful commodities.

To everyone who helped in any way, a special thank you.  To our guests, thank you for coming - we would love to welcome you back into our fellowship at any time.  God bless you.
