Our Territorial Commanders, Commissioners Alex and Ingeborg Hughes, conducted the meetings on the Sunday. Our special guest for the morning meeting was the Lord Mayor of Birmingham accompanied by the Lady Mayoress. Like the Saturday evening festival, capacity congregations attended these meetings where there was a warm spirit of camaraderie between old and new friends.
Our evening open-air meeting was held in New Street, in the City Centre, and was an open-air meeting with a difference! We saw it as the ideal opportunity to put not only the Salvation Army, but also Jesus Christ, 'on the map'. We presented a special Millennium Street Party style open-air witness because we wanted to remind everyone that the year 2000 is the time to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. It wasn't just a one-day wonder on the first of January - we've got a whole year to enjoy the celebrations.
Was it a success? We had about ten people either join the march back to the Citadel or 'followed the band'. Five of them attended the evening meeting. Yes, that was a success. But, what next? Your prayers are requested that God will speak further with these good people and they make their way back to 'the Citadel' again or to their local church.
The following photographs illustrate something of the occasion of celebration for both our re-union weekend, and the Millennium.
A CD ROM has been compiled containing these and many more photographs of the weekend. The price is just £4 plus p&p. Please e-mail the webmaster for details of how to place your order.
