Songsters Visit to Boscombe - 24/25th February 2007

A lesson in how to prepare meetings and programmes of the highest quality with total commitment and abundant enthusiasm, was provided by the Birmingham Citadel Songster Brigade.  Throughout their weekend visit to Boscombe, under the very capable leadership of Songster Leader Lesley Nicholson, they lived the message about which they sang, without one reference to a music copy.  And because of that every word was heard, and not only those that were sung but the spoken word too.  No less than fifteen testimonies, brief and to the point, were heard during the musical festivals as the microphone was passed from one member of a family to another!

From the opening rendition of Proclaim the Glory to the final Total Praise on the Saturday evening the large and very receptive congregation were left in no doubt as to the exceptional talent in front of them.  Both on Saturday and Sunday there was an abundance of solo items, both vocal and instrumental.  Whether with voice, flute, saxophone, xylophone or when the cello soloist opened the holiness meeting with breathtaking beauty as she played Begin the Day with God, each performance was outstanding.  The Saturday evening programme also included Seekers of Your Heart and When We Cannot See Our Way, together with a timbrel item, and featured songs from Joseph and His Technicolor Dreamcoat with a group of songsters suitably attired in various colours.  In the holiness meeting, during which three speakers referred to the theme 'Rest in the Lord', the local singing company and YP band supported and the songsters sang Come to Me and You Raise Me Up.

The songsters set the tone for the final meeting of the weekend, during which one seeker was registered, with We Come to Worship You and also sang You Are My All In All and Moment of Truth.  The timbrellists again gave a scintillating performance and Boscombe senior band also took part.  In conclusion to a weekend of praise, prayer and personal witness the massed songsters of Birmingham Citadel and Boscombe sang One Life to Live.
