We hosted a special ‘Composers Preview’ night on Friday 8th. This occasion saw the visit of Brass Band Willebroek from Belgium, and our special guest was Michael Ball (pictured below), the composer of this year’s test piece for the British Open Championship. The evening commenced with a scintillating fanfare arrangement of Ein’ Feste Burg and was followed by the World Premier of the test piece Ceremony for Brass. During the second half of the programme, Brass Band Willebroek presented a programme specially tailored to a Salvation Army audience including a beautiful arrangement of the hymn tune Crimond and Robert Redhead’s Quintessence. All this, together with two brilliant soloists (tenor horn and E flat bass) pictured below, ensured that it was a night to remember, and perhaps a night to repeat next year? We’ll see! (Was that the adjudicators spotted at the back of the hall, getting a sneak preview of the test piece?)
