The Salvationists from Birmingham Citadel first held their meetings in the City streets back in 1892. Today we carry on this fine form of worship conducting meetings and marches of witness in many different venues within a much changed City to the one that our forefathers saw over 100 years ago. You would be most welcome at any of these meetings. Please check with the office for times and venues. The Citadel is known throughout the 'Army world' mainly because of its musical sections, but also because of the witness and work of the Corps within an inner city environment. At present the Corps is responsible for running a day care centre, a children's playgroup, a luncheon club, and two evangelical outreach programmes - as well as a very full Corps schedule within the City. Obviously, a big community like Birmingham has many different cultural, social and economic problems and the Corps is facing these head-on and planning for the future to meet needs and opportunities as they arise. Sunday worship meetings enjoy the highest attendances in central Birmingham and are held in the Citadel on St Chad's Queensway at 10.30 am and at 5 pm. (These times can change so it is recommended that you check with us beforehand, especially if you are travelling a long way.) The congregations bridge all age groups with a particularly large representation of young people. The meetings are informal in nature and feature the musical sections, both senior and junior. Regular visitors know that these musical groups are well worth hearing. More importantly, the Word of God is opened up in a highly positive and interesting manner. The Christian teaching is of the highest order and you are strongly encouraged to respond to this invitation to come along. If you require a lift to any of the Sunday indoor meetings then please make contact with the office +44 (0)121 236 5776 who will do their best to arrange this for you.
Please be assured of a very warm welcome. |
