Birmingham Citadel Young People’s Band is a group of 20 young Christian
musicians aged between 6 and 17 years old, who play music to express their
faith. The group rehearse weekly and play in the services at Birmingham Citadel
Salvation Army every Sunday. In addition to these commitments the brass band
also perform many other concerts in venues all over the UK Territory. Recent
engagements have included travelling to Sunderland in the North East, Sheffield
in Yorkshire and Romford in the South, as well as concerts around the Midlands in
Salvation Army halls, churches of other denominations and their participation in
the annual Christmas concert at Birmingham’s Symphony Hall.Under the leadership of Gavin Lamplough and his assistant Robert Hayward, the band continues to develop. They have a training scheme for beginner brass musicians and constantly find ways to challenge the more advanced players within the group to develop their skills. But of utmost importance to the young musicians that form Birmingham Citadel Young People’s Band is to develop their own Christian faith whilst seeking to communicate their spirituality through the medium of the brass band.
